Jewellery, gold and watches are in hot demand at auction. Here Hansons’ Head of Jewellery Helen Smith picks out seven top lots in the May 16 jewellery, silver and watches sale, part of the May 16-21 Derbyshire Antiques & Collectors Auction.

Bracelet set to charm | Lot 151

Charm bracelets spark high bids because gold prices have soared in recent years and these popular bracelets brim with the precious metal. Bidders will like this 9ct rose gold charm bracelet, comprising hollow links approx 11mm, each marked 9c length approx 21cm, boasted various charms including a Edward VII 1908 sovereign, two 9ct gold mounted swivel fobs, a 9ct gold mounted picture frame, two charms and a medallion fob. Total gross weight approx 72.6gms | £700-£800

Edwardian elegance | Lot 152

Both Edwardian and Victorian jewellery are extremely sought after and this is a golden example. It’s n Edwardian seed pearl and gold necklace comprising an articulated front of pearl-set flower and scroll decoration, suspending three pearl-set dropper, length of front approx 7.5cm, to a rope twist chain with barrel clasp, length approx 39cm, unmarked assessed as 15ct gold, total gross weight approx 12gms | £300-400

Greyhound grace | Lot 160

Animals and jewellery are an excellent combination as both are adored by nearly everyone. This Essex crystal gold stick pin has a round crystal depicting a greyhound. It’s sat within a beaded gold border, diameter 21mm, total gross weight approx 7.2gms, missing glazed back | £100-£150

Victorian delight | Lot 168

This dazzling gem is a perfect example of why antique jewellery is so popular. This Victorian turquoise and gold brooch has an engraved crescent and cuir roule motifs, round and oval cabochon turquoise accents, and suspending engraved drop beads. Dazzling detail! Length approx 50mm, unmarked assessed as a minimum of 15ct gold, pin and C clasp, fitted with later safety chain, total gross weight approx 5.8gms, in original fitted leather bound case | £250-£350

Pocket watch | Lot 258

The sheer beauty and elegance of traditional pocket watches never go out of fashion. This Waltham 9ct rose gold hunter pocket watch has a signed  white enamel dial, numeral markers, subsidiary dial at 6, keyless wind at 12, movement numbered 14690078,  monogramed engraved case approx 50mm, total gross weight approx 80.9gms. It is sold together with a 9ct rose gold graduated Albert link chain, widest approx 5mm, T bar and swivel clasp and links marked 375 9, length approx 30cm, suspending a 9ct gold swivel carnelian and bloodstone fob, total gross weight approx 34gms and unmarked hardstone set watch key  | £1,000-£1,500

Extra special Sekonda | Lot 264

Vintage watches are one of the most vibrant auction sectors and I expect collectors to be out in force to bid on this Sekonda Stainless Steel poljot Strela cosmonaut’s chronograph wristwatch. Signed Sekonda, circa 1970, calibre 3017, it comprises a signed silvered dial with applied baton markers with lume tops, duel subsidiary dials, lume inserts to hands, tachymetre,  case approx 34mm, to a leather strap.

These watches were issued until 1979 to cosmonauts/pilots for measuring official time-keeping in the skies. By repute, this same model of watch calibre 3017 Poljot movement was worn by Alexey Leonov. He was the first person to complete a space walk in 1965. Also Alexey Gubarev, a Soviet cosmonaut who went on two space flights, wore a black dialled Sekonda 3017 to travel in space. | £200-300
