Silver

Fine silver shines bright at auction, and so it should. Hansons sees many exquisite examples. Victorian tableware, sculptural  figures, cutlery, cigarette boxes, candelabras – all manner of decorative items – are consigned for sale.

Silver showcases craftsmanship at its best and often has an air of grandeur, particularly when heavyweight Victorian tableware and presentation pieces appear for valuation.

Striking Silver Success

We also see superb silver trophies and bespoke items which were originally commissioned as gifts. A particularly striking example in a Fine Art Silver Auction was a large Magna Carta sculptural figure group by Hunt & Roskell. It was presented to Victorian MP and Jewish engineer Joseph d’Aguilar Samuda. lt sold for £56,000.

Other Silver Auction highlights include a pair of 1878 Victorian cast silver figural candlesticks, designed by John Septimus Beresford, which sold for £8,100. In addition, a Tiffany and Co American silver tea caddy, designed by Edward C Moore circa 1878, made £14,000.
