Grand Gorilla Auction in aid of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust – hosted by Charles Hanson

 |  By andy

Jersey has bid farewell to glorious gorilla sculptures that have been adding colour to the island’s wild spaces and urban hot spots for 11 weeks.

The animals have been rounded up and taken to their temporary home for a paint and pamper to get them ready for auction.

However, islanders will have one last chance to view the magnificent sculptures that have been dotted all over the island this summer and autumn as part of the Channel Islands’ largest public art trail.

Goodbye Gorillas is a four-day celebration from November 1-4 that will give gorilla fans the opportunity to see the whole troop together at Jersey Zoo before they go under the hammer to raise funds to build a new home for Durrell’s beloved gorilla family. No booking required, normal admission prices apply until 3pm when half price entry is available to view the gorillas. Durrell members free.

For those who can’t bear to say goodbye to their favourite gorilla (or gorillas!), be sure to book tickets for the Grand Gorilla Auction at The Royal Yacht on November 6. One of the UK’s best known auctioneers, Charles Hanson, who raised £1.2m at the Wild in Art Auction, organised Bee in the City, last year, will sell all 40 silverback sculptures from the trail, plus three of the small sculptures and one surprise silverback.

Find out more at: www.gwg.durrell.org/auction

Space at the live auction is limited and we respectfully ask that only serious bidders attend. If you are interested in giving one of the gorillas a forever home please email [email protected] to find out more about booking tickets to the live auction. Tickets are £25 each and include a drinks reception and street food throughout the night.

Gorilla enthusiasts can bid from anywhere in the world as the Grand Gorilla Auction will also be online. You can view the online auction catalogue below and register to bid here: https://hansonslive.hansonsauctioneers.co.uk/m/vie…

The auction will also be live streamed in the Drift bar at The Royal Yacht where you can join in all the excitement of the night. Tickets are £10 each and include a drink on arrival. If you get tempted, you can always bid online using your own mobile device.

Tickets to the Drift bar can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/grand-gorilla-auction…
