Ceramics routinely exceed expectations at auction. For example, a scarce Beswick Shire Horse raced to £800 – six times its £120-£150 guide – and a 19th Century porcelain teapot, decorated with boating and fisherman scenes, hammered at £400 from a £50-£60 estimate.

Royal Crown Derby, particularly the Imari pattern, is in hot demand. An early 20th century Royal Crown Derby plate paired with a 20th century oriental vase reached £290 from a £40-£60 guide. In addition, three mid-20th Century Meissen porcelain plates sold above estimate at £460.
