Kenilworth treasure hunt! TV personality bringing ‘crack team’ for free antiques valuation event

 |  By andy

TV antiques expert Charles Hanson is urging the people of Kenilworth to dust off their curios and collectables for a major event in November.

Charles, a familiar face on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, is coming to St Francis of Assisi Church Hall, Warwick Road, on November 14, from 10am-4pm, with a ‘crack team’ of experts on hand to search for auction stars at a free valuation event.

Charles, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “If you think you just might have something of value gathering dust under the bed, in the garage or up in the loft, now’s the time to dig it out and bring it for free assessment.

“If you like the guide price and want to join me on an auction voyage of discovery, you can consign it there and then and potentially turn unwanted items into cash.”

Hansons holds a multitude of general and specialist auctions all year round selling all manner of objects including ceramics, coins, glassware, paintings, jewellery, silver and watches, medals and militaria, antiquarian books and much more.

Charles said: “Whatever you have at home, we’d love to see it. I’m bringing a crack team of experts to Kenilworth and we’re all keen to share our expertise and help people as much as we can.”

Joining Charles on the day will be fellow TV expert Kate Bliss, who specialises in jewellery, silver and watches, and Hansons’ Fine Art expert and associate director Adrian Rathbone.

In addition, Haydn Roberts, a man who’s helped to conserve the work of some of the world’s best-known artists, will be sharing his oil painting restoration skills.

Charles said: “People can bring along damaged oil paintings to be assessed by Haydn. He will be demonstrating how to bring paintings back to life and Adrian Rathbone will be on hand to value them.”

Mr Roberts, a professional artist, worked in Fine Art conservation at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for many years and rose to become lead conservator for oil easel paintings.

He said: “I have worked on many extraordinary paintings by artists ranging from the Renaissance period, such as Giovanni Bellini, right through and up to modern-day artists like Francis Bacon.

“I have also worked on paintings by French Impressionists, Constable, Turner and 19th century pre-Raphaelite artists such as Millais, Rosetti and Holman Hunt.”

Hansons’ experts and Haydn Roberts will be at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall, 110 Warwick Road, Kenilworth CV8 1HL, on November 14, 10am-4pm. Please note, Kate Bliss available from 10am-3pm. Hansons also offers free home visits and free quotes for house clearance and downsizing. To find out more, email [email protected].
