Ancient history surges back to life in Hansons’ renowned Historica and Antiquities Auctions. This rich and fascinating specialist sale brings many rare finds to auction – and gains huge media coverage.

For example, a 15th century brooch discovered near Kirby Muxloe Castle, Leicestershire, sold for £20,800 at auction from a guide price of £6,000. It was believed to be a gift of love from William Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings, to his wife Katherine Neville, who he married in 1462.

Relic Sells For Thousands

Other impressive lots to excel in Hansons’ Historica sales include a Celtic harness brooch dating back to the mid 1st century AD which sold for £55,000. It, too, made national news. Then there was the rare Medieval Seal Matrix of Archbishop Robert Kilwardby, circa 1273-1279 AD, which was contested to £5,600.
