Dazzling Christmas gifts that will truly amaze

 |  By andy

If you’re looking for something extraordinary to buy someone for Christmas a colourful collection of semi-precious stones, minerals and rocks will be sold in our December 17 Jewellery Auction.

Two boxes of semi-precious stones including amethyst, malachite, hematite, tiger’s eye, Opalite, labradorite, banded agate, turquoise and bismuth will be going under the hammer, estimate £250-£300 per box, lots 355 and 356.

Bismuth is a brittle metal that develops a spiral, stair-shaped structure. At first glance, it looks as if it’s been manufactured but it’s a work of nature. It’s made all the more attractive thanks its silver-pink iridescent hue featuring a rainbow of colours from yellow to blue.

The stair-stepped structure of bismuth crystals is the result of a higher growth rate around the outside edges than on the inside edges.

If you want to woo a loved one with sheer luxury, in the same sale, we have a ladies’ Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date-Just bi metal wristwatch, fully boxed with papers, estimate £2,000-£2,500

Or why not dazzle someone you love with a 1950s diamond-set 18ct white gold ladies Rolex watch, estimate £1,000-£1,500?

Finally, our head of jewellery Helen Smith loves an 18ct gold emerald and diamond cluster ring. Its emerald weighs in at 1.8 carats while the total diamond weight is 2.0 carats, estimate £4,000-£6,000.

Our Antiques and Collectors Auction runs from December 17-19 at Hansons, Heage Lane. Etwall, DE65 6LS with viewing on Monday, December 16, 11am-7pm. Our offices close for Christmas on Friday, December 20 at 5pm.
