A century-old drum saved from a skip could achieve £4,000 at auction in December.
The Ludwig, all-metal, separate tension drum has been described as a rare survivor by Hansons’ music consultant Claire Howell.
The size No. 5 Dance Model ‘delux’ has wonderful engraving around the body with copper tones and is believed to date back to circa 1923.
It was discovered during a house clearance and had already been dispatched into a skip when our vendor spotted it – and rescued it!
The drum was popped into a cupboard and, over time, moved from pillar to post. It was used as décor in pubs, offered to various people, including musicians and, occasionally, got lost!
But it kept rolling back to our client who found it during the clearance of her late aunty and uncle’s farmhouse. She calls it the lucky drum because it escaped that skip. She hopes it will be purchased by a sympathetic, generous drummer who will ensure it makes music again.
