Charles Hanson blown away to discover HIMSELF in vintage find

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Charles Hanson was blown away to find himself tucked away in a vintage find dating as far back as the 1940s.

He said: “I was browsing through an old autograph book, which was being used during the Second World War.  I know that as I spotted a note related to celebrating Christmas in1944.  It belonged to a Margaret Roger and contained autographs of film stars and snooker players.

“I started flipped from page to page and then came the big surprise. I suddenly found myself looking at a youthful photo of me alongside my signature penned in October 2005. I was stunned, touched and delighted all at the same time. It immediately sparked a memory because 2005 was the year I launched Hansons Auctioneers. October of that year was only my second month as boss of my new business. I was 27 years old.

“Thanks to appearances on TV’s Bargain Hunt, which began in 2002, I was known by a few. But I was humble then, as I am now, when asked for my autograph. It was strange to see my name in an album sprinkled with stars.

“Sadly the book’s owner had passed away. Following a house clearance, the autograph album arrived at Hansons amid a box of stamp albums.

“We hope the autograph album will make between £40 and £60 at auction and that my signature, written 18 years ago, will live on for a few years yet.”
