Classical art attracts global bidders and this portrayal of the Madonna and Child is set to tempt them in the November 23-28 Antiques and Collectors Auction
The Continental School oil on canvas has been painted in the style of the great Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It dates back to the 17th/18th century and has an elegant 18th century gilt frame.
Raphael (1483-1520) only lived until the age of 37 but made a phenomenal contribution in his short life. His genius inspires and delights artists and all those who appreciate fine works.
His paintings are admired for clarity of form, ease of composition and ideal of human grandeur. Together with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, he forms the traditional trinity of great masters of the Italian Renaissance period.
The painting, lot 3004, estimate £500-£600, will be offered on November 28, day four of the November 23-28 Antiques and Collectors Auction.
