A rich collection of antiques from a Northamptonshire country house and a barn find are among rich pickings for bidders in the November 4 Fine Art, Antiques and Collectors Auction at Hanson Holloway’s Ross.
Jasper Marsh, auctioneer and senior valuer at the firm in Banbury, Oxfordshire said: “The saleroom boasts some interesting and diverse consignments. They include fine 19th century silver coasters made by English silversmith Paul Storr (1771-1844). They have come from a country house in Northamptonshire. They’re part of a good private collection of silver, furniture, sporting cases and other chattels.
“Other interesting auction offerings include a bronze bust owned by a collector of maritime objects, a very smart Dunhill desk piece, a plate bucket and an Edwardian grocer’s cart which was found in a barn during a routine home visit.”
Shipbuilder bronze | Lot 286
Frank Lynn Jenkins ( British 1870-1927). A hollow cast bronze bust of Victorian shipbuilder Edward Pembroke. Mr Pembroke, who died at the age of 81, was chairman of Messrs. Galbraith, Pembroke and Co and one of the most prominent figures in London shipping circles. He gained fame for being responsible for the first steamer to pass through the Suez canal in 1869. The bronze is accompanied by a period leather bound folio of newspaper cuttings, largely obituaries and other memories of the gentleman. 64 cm high, including marble socle. Signed Lynn Jenkins and dated 1915. Raised upon a fluted ebonised wood column. Est £400-£600
