Antiques expert Eric Knowles joins Hansons as consultant in 20th century glass and ceramics

Renowned antiques specialist Eric Knowles is bringing his knowledge and expertise to Hansons Auctioneers.

Eric,  well known for his television appearance on shows such as Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and Going For A Song, specialises in ceramics and glass.

He will oversee Hansons’ Moorcroft-to-Lalique 20th Century sales of antiques and collectables, sharing his passion for items which are evocative of the century. In addition, Eric will host a series of valuation events at the firm’s saleroom locations. 

Charles Hanson, MD of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “I’m delighted Eric has joined Hansons  as a consultant. His wealth of knowledge and experience are second to none.

“As a young boy watching the Antiques Roadshow on a cold Sunday night in the winter, together with Going for a Song in the early 1990s, I held Eric in high esteem. I wanted to be like him. 

“It’s an honour to work alongside him now. His expertise will enhance services for Hansons’ clients across our UK salerooms in Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Oxfordshire, Kent, London and Hertfordshire.  Eric and I also plan to give talks on antiques and host charity auctions across the UK.”

Eric Knowles said: “I’m delighted to be working with Charles Hanson. His passion for antiques in the more modern age will drive forward this important sector of the antiques and collectables market.”

Eric is a published author on subjects such as Victoriana, Royal memorabilia, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and René Lalique. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and associated with several charities including Headway and FABLE (For a better life with epilepsy).

He has lectured at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, and important national museums in Australia, Canada, the US, South Africa, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic.  He had the Freedom of the City of London bestowed in 2000.
