TV antiques expert Charles Hanson can’t wait to uncover antique treasures in Sutton Coldfield

 |  By Kendal Cooper

If you’ve always wondered what that antique treasure, quirky collectable or piece of jewellery might be worth you can find out for free courtesy of TV antiques expert Charles Hanson.

The man who makes the nation smile thanks to his appearances on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip will be hosting a free antiques valuation event at Sutton Arts Theatre, S Parade, Sutton Coldfield,  on Wednesday, March 1, 11am-1pm, with more dates to follow.

Charles, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Some of my best finds are made out on the road and I can’t wait to see what the people of Sutton Coldfield bring  to show me.

“At this time of year longer daylight hours start to shines a light on dusty corners in our homes. Delve into those attics, garages, drawers and under the bed to see what’s hiding away.

“All types of antiques and collectables sell well at auction and if people like the guide price they can consign their items into one of Hansons’ monthly sales.

Ming Dynasty gilt bronze depiction of Wudi, an important historical figure in Chinese culture. Sold £68,000

“Auctions are booming right now. We’re seeing strong demand for all kinds of objects including jewellery, gold, coins, watches, vintage toys, militaria, ceramics, Chinese works of art and memorabilia relating to music, films and sport.

“We’ve witnessed some amazing results already in 2023. For example, a Ming Dynasty gilt bronze depiction of Wudi, an important historical figure in Chinese culture, achieved  £68,000 and a table post box which belonged to Queen Victoria sold for £14,500.

“But it’s not all about big-money items. In Hansons’ February Antiques and Collectors’ sale a large Lladro ceramics piece called The Kiss swept past its £150 estimate to achieve £700. Results like this delight clients.”

Hansons Auctioneers will be at Sutton Arts Theatre, S Parade, Sutton Coldfield, B72 1QU from 11am-1pm on March 1, April 5 and May 3. No appointment necessary.
