5 lots to unleash childhood nostalgia in Christmas sale – chosen by dolls expert Janet Rawnsley

 |  By Kendal Cooper

Childhood nostalgia comes to the fore in Hansons’ November 30 Christmas Splendour Sale of Vintage Toys: Dolls, Dolls House and Teddy Bears + Costume and Textiles.

Here dolls and teddy bears consultant Janet Rawnsley picks out some of her favourite lots.

Devine dolls

Lot 18: I love this French Jumeau bisque doll, circa 1875. It is a fashion doll looking for a new owner. Sadly she has had an accident, hence the damage to her face, but she is still quite beautiful. She has a guide price of £300-£500 but would potentially sell for 10 times that figure if undamaged. It is a rare oversized piece.

Lot 4: Step back in time and admire the detail on this elegant cot holding two French dolls, all circa 1890. The cot comes with its original mattress pieces, astonishing when you consider it is around 130 years old. This set will have been much-loved and played with, estimate £70-£90

Cars of our dreams

Lot 392: Cars have always dominated the toy market and are often treasured for decades. A huge collection of mainly Matchbox vehicles, including some rare examples, has been discovered in a loft in Cheshire. The toys date from the 1960s to the 2000s, estimate £200-£300.

MATCHBOX LOTS IN THE SALE

Lot 392: It is always wonderful to find vintage toys – better still if they come complete with their original box. Such is the case with this 1966 Johnny Speed red electric car. It could rmake a vintage car lover’s dream come true on Christmas Day – 56 years after it was first manufactured! This great childhood find was made in Cheshire. The lot incudes Palitoy Fork Lift Truck, Mighty King Crane and Riot Battle Tank – all boxed – estimate £150-£200.

Regency baby mittens

Lot 243: The November 30 sale includes vintage and antique clothing and textiles and I could not resist including this rare early Regency pair of hand-stitched baby mittens. They are made from unbleached lawn cotton and have a silk lining over the fingers, brocaded with metallic threads, plus a circular 19th century doily with beetle wings and couched bullion threads, estimate £50-£80.
