A Special Message From Charles Hanson

 |  By andy

As the nights close in and we move into autumn, it’s still a testing time with Covid a concern for us all.

Nevertheless, Hansons is working safely and well within the restrictions and there is much to celebrate and look forward to. For example, I was thrilled with our debut sale at Holloway’s, a firm we recently acquired to enable us to reach out to clients across Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties.

Thanks to Hansons’ brilliant database of buyers and sellers, our bidding platform – www.hansonslive.co.uk – and a superb postage department, we are attracting private buyers who are spending large sums. Consequently, average prices achieved at Hansons exceed the auction averages of other firms across the country.

We’re looking forward to a series of exciting sales including our September Derbyshire Fine Art sale. If you missed out on entering an object, don’t worry. We have another Derbyshire Fine Art Sale on October 29 with entries invited until October 10.

Items in our September Fine Art Auction. Catalogue

Browse our September 23-24 Fine Art Catalogue online now or pop down to our Etwall Auction Centre to preview it in person by appointment. Please call 01283 733988 to book a time.

A safe and airy marquee is available for free valuations at our Etwall headquarters and it’s proving hugely beneficial. Clients can consign safe in the knowledge Covid regulations are being adhered to. Drop by Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm, or Saturday, 9am-noon.

As well as general valuations, specialists are on hand. On Tuesdays, toy valuations are available with Steve Fulford and we can assess sports memorabilia with David Wilson-Turner.

Books expert Jim Spencer offers free valuations at Etwall Auction Centre on Wednesdays

On Wednesdays, Etwall Auction Centres welcomes Hansons’ associate director and Library Department head Jim Spencer to assess books, manuscripts, maps and works on paper. Jim can also advise on stamps, wine and whisky, music memorabilia and instruments. Adrian Stevenson is also on hand to value medals, militaria, sporting guns and country pursuits objects and Wednesday is also the day to have coins and bank notes valued by William Haywood.

On Fridays, head of jewellery Helen Smith offers free jewellery, watch and silver valuations from 9am-5pm. In addition, general valuers Edward Rycroft and Karl Martin are on hand to take in consignments. We very much look forward to seeing you.

In addition, our free home visit valuations are as popular as ever. We are happy to advise clients in their home without charge or obligation.

We are busy collecting for our Toy and Gaming Auction in November. This year we’ve witnessed a huge increase in buyer demand for video games and consoles. Think Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Commodore and more.

Other exciting sales on the horizon – with entries invited – include our Historica, Coins, Bank Notes and Artefacts Auction in October. That will be followed in November by the Derbyshire Cellar: Wine & Whisky Auction; Music Memorabilia and Britpop; Football in Focus and Sports Memorabilia and Medals and Militaria.

Turning our attention to Staffordshire, led brilliantly by Adrian Rathbone, we have an exciting series of four autumn sales at Bishton Hall. They will include a two-day Staffordshire Antique and Design Auction; Library Auction led by our market-leading expert Jim Spencer; The Staffordshire Cellar, Natural history, Taxidermy and Tribal Auction and the Staffordshire Picture Auction.

In addition, we are busy sourcing items for our general collectors’ sales at Etwall and interior sales at Bishton Hall. We welcome all types of collectors’ items, silver jewellery watches, ceramics and glass, metalwares, clocks and furniture, pictures, works of art, garden statutory and more.

Despite what has been a difficult year for us all, I’m thrilled our salerooms are continuing to serve our clients well, our postage department is as busy as ever and our marketing team is making international, national and local news thanks to our wonderful finds.
