Yorkshire celebrity chef Nigel Brown has teamed up with Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, to cook up an historical treat for food fans – centred on all things Georgian.
The History of Food will bring together the world of cookery and antiques for the first time in the magnificent period setting of Bishton Hall, Hansons’ Staffordshire country house saleroom and events venue.
The pair plan to stir up a cookery sensation plucked from the mists of time – using Charles’ prized recipe book from the 1700s!
Nigel, a cookery school owner and award-winning cookbook author, will join Charles to take foodie fans on an amazing Georgian journey at Bishton Hall, a mansion dating back to c.1750.

Nigel said: “When Charles and I realised there was a link between the world of antiques and food that had never really been fused together we decided to join forces to bring something very special and unique to Bishton Hall. We are both so excited to share our news of this exciting new venture together.”
The celebrity duo have created a Georgian dinner evening. Nigel will cook up an amazing, authentic Georgian three-course dinner in the Georgian kitchen at Bishton Hall, which will then be served in its grand dining room. He’ll be recreating recipes from Charles’s 1700s antique cookbook. So, people can taste recipes that haven’t been created for hundreds of years.

Guests will be encouraged to wear period costume while dining in the grand dining room with its deep red walls, period art works and candelabras. The evening will be topped off with Charles’ charm and Nigel’s Yorkshire banter as they share with guests, over coffee and candlelight, stories of the Georgian kitchen, food and antiques of the era.
In the run up to Christmas Nigel and Charles will also be running Georgian Christmas Stir-up Sundays at Bishton. Join them in the Georgian kitchen at Bishton for the day and stir up your very own Christmas plumb pudding as it would have been done in the 17th century.
You’ll also be making some sweet treats ready for Christmas Day and reminiscing with Charles and Nigel over how it would’ve been in a Georgian Christmas kitchen back in the day, all over a mulled wine and mince pie or two!

Nigel will also be running his hugely popular cookery school at Bishton Hall on selected dates. Keen cooks will be able to join various hands-on cookery courses such as his “Taste of Christmas” course, or how about some corporate entertaining, cooking and seasonal foraging courses? They are all sure to tickle the tastebuds.
Charles said: “Blending cookery traditions from centuries ago with the Georgian magnificence of Bishton Hall, is surely a recipe made in heaven. I’m delighted to join forces with Nigel and hope fans of fine food and history will join us for this feast of nostalgia.”
