Ceramics with character, wartime generals and politicians joined forced to spark strong results in August’s Antiques and Collectors Auction.
Part of a fine Derbyshire private collection of Royal Doulton Character Jugs, all prototypes, smashed their £200-£300 estimates in Hansons’ monthly ceramics section.
Hammer highlights included lot 1042, Vladimir Lenin, which reached a heady £2,000. In hot pursuit was lot 1032, Chairman Mao Zedong, which reached £1,000. The same hammer price was achieved by lot 1033, General MacArthur. Lot 1043, General Rommel, soared to £950 and lot 1041, General Foch, made £540.
