The Friends of the William Salt Library in Stafford enjoyed a summer day out at Hansons’ Staffordshire saleroom Bishton Hall.
The event, which was held in the Orangery, included a tour, talk and antique valuations courtesy of Bishton Hall manager Mark Holder.
Margaret George, Secretary of the Friends of the William Salt Library, said: “Staff at Bishton Hall and the Tearooms went out of their way to help with organising the event and made us feel very welcome. Charles Hanson was to start the proceedings with a talk and valuation of our items, but unfortunately he fell ill with a nasty virus, which was a disappointment.
“However, Mark Holder stepped in at the last minute and proved a great success. He gave us a talk on the history of the hall, valued our items and took us on a tour. Afterwards, we had lunch in the Oranger, including cakes and drinks provided by the Tearooms. We then then enjoyed looking around the grounds and artisan shops.
“Our members were delighted that the official Staffordshire County Flag was being flown from the hall’s flagpole. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit and requested that we hold our summer event at Bishton Hall again next year.
Funds raised by the Friends of the William Salt Library are used for the maintenance and preservation of the 18th century listed building which houses the William Salt Library in Eastgate Street, Stafford. Funds also pay for the repair and binding of documents and books forming part of the historic Library Collection and to purchase additional books or documents for the Library.
