5 top lots in ‘exciting’ Curated Ceramics Auction – chosen by Dr Richard Halliday

Dr Richard Halliday, Head of Curated Ceramics at Hansons’ Oxfordshire saleroom in Banbury, has published an exciting ceramics catalogue ahead of the July 1 Curated Ceramics Auction.

Richard returns to Hansons’ ranks following a six-month research and publication sabbatical and is proud to offer a broad range of ceramics across three centuries of production.

“He said: “There are ceramics for everyone within this catalogue with examples of Chinese export, fine English porcelains, transfer-printed wares and more.

“A large and important Spode collection assembled mainly in the 1950s and 1960s will be offered alongside private Derby and Royal Crown Derby collections. Estimates range from £20 to over £1,000, so there is a great mix for all budgets and tastes.”

Lot 243 | Riley Drapers Arms Platter

An early 19th century blue and white transfer-printed Riley Drapers Arms platter, c. 1825. It is marked to the underside and printed with a central armorial for the Worshipful Company of the Drapers, Coventry. 47 cm wide. £200-£300

Lot 39 | Delft Plate

An 18th century English tin glazed earthenware hand-painted blue and white delft plate, c. 1730-50. 23 cm wide. £250-£350

Lot 83 | Desk Set

An early 19th century hand-painted porcelain Chamberlains Worcester desk set with scenic panel of Worcester with a bridge over the Severn, c. 1820. It is marked to the underside and comprises of: two lidded ink wells, a candle stick and a shaped tray. 29 cm wide. £80-£120

A pair of early nineteenth century pearlware Anthony and Cleopatra large figure groups, c. 1820. £650-£800

Lot 184 | Spode Delight

An early nineteenth century blue and white transfer-printed Spode Indian Sporting series drainer, c. 1815. It is marked to the underside and printed with Shooting at the Edge of the Jungle. 32 cm wide. £400-£600
