Saturday morning valuations have relaunched at Hansons’ Derbyshire saleroom

 |  By Kendal Cooper

If you would love to find out what that antique or collectable is worth this weekend Hansons’ Derbyshire saleroom is open for free valuations and consignments on Saturday mornings.

Etwall Auction Centre’s valuation marquee is open by appointment from 9am-1pm with consultant valuer Nicholas Gent on hand to advise.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “I’m thrilled to restart our Saturday service. Prior to lockdown in March 2020 our Etwall saleroom routinely opened on Saturday mornings to assist people who, perhaps, worked during the week. Bit by bit, normal services are being resumed.

“Nicholas is happy to guide and advise on all types of antiques and collectables and can arrange consignment into our monthly auctions. He is a man with vast knowledge and a wealth of experience, particularly when it comes to his specialism, ceramics.”

Royal Crown Derby china items including Royal Pinxton Roses Vine Cobalt 2451.

Nicholas, from Matlock, Derbyshire, is a leading authority on Pinxton and Derbyshire ceramics. He is the author of The Patterns and Shapes of the Pinxton China Factory, universally acknowledged as the standard reference work.

He was first introduced to the products of the Pinxton China Factory in 1976 and went on to develop a deep understanding of this poorly catalogued and misrepresented ceramic factory.

He lectures on Derby and Pinxton and has addressed the Oxford and London Ceramic Circles. His academic research into Pinxton continues and he voluntarily works to re-catalogue and refresh Derby Museum and Art Gallery’s ceramics collections.

His has organised specialist antique ceramic fairs throughout the UK, predominately dealing in ceramics dating back to the 17th century through to the early 1900s. In addition, he has knowledge of sporting guns being a former captain of the British shooting team and ex-Great Britain and England international pistol shot.
