If you’ve ever dreamed of living in country house splendour, a rich collection of antiques from a Staffordshire period property could add regal elegance to your home.
The contents of Haddon House, a Georgian home in the village of Shenstone, near Lichfield, are set to be offered for auction on January 12 by Hansons Auctioneers.
And according to Hansons’ valuer Oli Thomas, the sale offers bidders an opportunity to invest in an eclectic mix of traditional English and French 19th century items.

He said: “Haddon House is a truly splendid Georgian property which has been in the same ownership for more than 50 years. Its elegant rooms have housed a striking combination of traditional furnishings, from a gorgeous 19th century mahogany dining room table to Louis XVI-style saloon chairs.
Top furniture lots include a 19th century Louis XVI rosewood and mahogany brass inlaid library table, estimate £4,000-£6,000, and a mid-Victorian walnut framed and upholstered conversation seat, £600-£800. Another statement piece is a large and impressive late 19th century cast iron Coalbrookdale hall stand, £800-£1,200.

The sale also features paintings, a fine example being a pair of Venetian scenes, oil on canvas, by Francis Moltino (Italian 1847-1867), £2,000-3,000. Strong interest is also anticipated in a watercolour painting of a garden by Sir Edward J Poynter GCVO, PRA (British, 1936-1919), £3,000-£5,000.
But it isn’t just about furnishings and décor. The Haddon House contents sale includes an oval Omega stainless steel Automatic Dynamic gentleman’s wristwatch in its original box, £400-£600.

The contents of Haddon House will be offered on January 12 in Hansons Auctioneers’ Fine Art and Antiques Auction at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire. Catalogues, when live, can be accessed at: www.hansonslive.co.uk and www.the-saleroom.com
