9 dazzling lots in June 17 auction chosen by Head of Jewellery Helen Smith

 |  By Adrian Gravity

Dazzling gems always emerge in our monthly Jewellery, Silver and Watches auction. Here, Head of Jewellery and Associate Director Helen Smith picks out 9 of her favourite lots coming up for auction on June 17 at Hansons.

And there is something to suite everyone’s pocket. Items featured here start with guide prices from as little as £30. This sale is a voyage of discovery for jewellery addicts offering affordable and historical as well as expensive pieces.

Shining Silver Star | Lot 86

This late 19th Century Art Nouveau-style silver caster with a cylindrical body and repousse with stylised flowers and strapwork is simply beautiful. It’s by Charles Edwards of London and dates back to 1899. The marks are crisp. There is a slight dent to the cover but otherwise its overall condition is good. £100-£120

Moonstone Brooch | Lot 152

I adore this silver and moonstone brooch by Bernard Instone. A circular form claw is set to the centre with a cluster of round cabochon moonstones, within a filigree wirework border with granular bead accents, size approx 25mm, pin and roller clasp to reverse, marked Made in England. £40-£50

Danish Delight | Lot 174

This collection of 12 silver buttons by Gundorph Albertus (1887-1954) is of Danish interest. Gundorph worked for the legendary and immensely talented Danish silversmith Georg Jensen. Each button is of a circular domed dome with engraved decoration, set to the centre with a round faceted green stone. Each button is marked with an AG 800 to the reverse. £100-£150

Double The Love | Lot 206

If one heart isn’t enough to show someone how much you love them how about two? This striking Victorian diamond set double heart ring features two heart-shaped green stones, possibly chalcedony, within a diamond-set border with diamond-set bow top. It’s in unmarked yellow metal, possibly 18ct gold, with silver settings. Totally adorable. £80-£100.

Diamond Envy | Lot 216A

If you want to turn heads with a dazzling jewel on your finger, this has to be a contender. This diamond and platinum cluster ring features a central claw-set emerald-cut diamond weighing approx 1.0 carats, assessed colour F/G, assessed clarity VS2, within a border of marquise cut diamonds. £2000-£3000.

Scent Of Quality | Lot 97

If antique objects of quality appeal then this late Victorian silver cylindrical scent bottle holder must surely appeal. It features a body chased and repousse with birds amongst scrolling foliate, gilt interior and glass stopper. It’s the work of Samson Mordan & Co. of London, 1900, and comes with a fitted, velvet-lined leather case. £100-£120.

Devine Art Deco | Lot 221

This Art Deco synthetic ruby and diamond-set platinum features a central claw-set rectangular stone within a border of eight cut diamonds. It’s an affordable beauty to behold, worthy of any finger. £30-£40.

Green With Envy? | Lot 225

This stunning, round emerald and diamond platinum ring is set to the centre with a round diamond approx 0.20ct, within a star border of triangular cut emerald, a grain set border of white brilliant cut diamonds with further emerald and diamond set accents. As if that was not enough, there is outer surround of square-cut emeralds. £1,850-£2,000

Mourning Elegance | Lot 303

The Victorians truly knew how to honour their loved ones with elegance and style. This Victorian pinchbeck swivel mourning brooch with duel glazed compartments includes an etched glass photograph of a gentleman with a photo of another gentleman to the reverse. £150-£250.
