6 glittering jewellery lots to tempt you in December’s Oxfordshire Fine Art Auction

Christmas treats are in store at our Oxfordshire saleroom – with aquamarines and diamonds lighting up the auction room.

The December 9 Banbury Fine Art, Antiques and Collectors Auction at Hansons Holloway Ross’s saleroom in Parsons Street, Banbury, promises to be a gifting extravaganza with 89 lots of gold, silver and costume jewellery offering buyers the chance to stuff stockings with sparkling delights.

A stunning diamond snowflake cluster ring is the Christmas piece to watch at lot 80, below, in the sale. It features an estimated 1.5 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds set into 18ct gold.

Jewellery valuer Mel Lee-Patrick FGA DGA, said: “This sparkling sale is a golden opportunity to pick up significant jewellery at a fraction of the cost of the high street or antiques shops.”

With 89 lots of jewellery in this sale it promises to be one to watch for collectors of jewellery and Mel’s further lots to watch include a striking amethyst and diamond-set cocktail ring, estimate £1,500 to £2,000; a moonstone necklet with matching bracelet, £60-£80; an Art Deco aquamarine and diamond cocktail ring, £800-£1,000 and a pair of 9ct gold octagonal bar cufflinks, £100-£110.

A diamond set brooch featuring a portrait of Queen Victoria as a young woman, above, also features in the sale. Lot 44, which also features the Queen’s Royal cipher to the reverse, was presented to one of her Maids of Honour in Waiting early in her reign and is estimated to reach between £1,000 and £2,000.

Sparkling lots to watch

Lot 9: An unusual amethyst-and-diamond-set cocktail ring in 18ct white gold with a distinctive star pattern outlined in yellow gold. Approximate total diamond weight 2cts, gross weight 10.4gm, size M. Along with an insurance valuation from 1979 for £1,400. Estimate £1,500-2,000

Lot 21: This glorious moonstone necklet with a matching bracelet would surely light up a jewellery lover’s face on Christmas morning. It comes complete with its vintage case. Estimate £60-80

Lot 31: An Art Deco aquamarine and diamond cocktail ring, in unmarked yellow gold mount. Central stone measures approximately 17mm x 13mm, surrounded by six, 2mm eight cut diamonds, ring size M, gross weight 7.9gm. Estimate £800-£1,000

Lot 33: Now something for him….a pair of chain link 9ct gold octagonal bar cufflinks, approximate weight 7.4gm. Estimate £100-£110

Lot 80: A diamond snowflake cluster ring in 18ct gold with an estimated 1.5ct of diamond in total, gross weight approximately 5.9gm, size P. Estimate £400-£600
