Silver is a big part of the antiques world, inspiring fascinating finds. Stunning items and decorative pieces regularly come under the hammer at Hansons, showcasing design and craftsmanship at its best.
Silver jewellery is also popular and, like most jewellery through the middle ages, is often filled with symbolism, communicating elements such as romance, love, spirituality, happiness or mourning.
Hansons holds monthly Antique and Collectors Auctions with a varied section of around 200 lots per auction to showcase the wonderful silver pieces that we discover. We also showcase fine silver in our quarterly Fine Art & Antique Auctions alongside our Decorative Arts Auctions.
Our silver department, led by Victoria Sheppard gains superb results and boasts an international client base of both silver dealers and private clients. As well as offering free valuations, we also provide professional written valuations for insurance, family division, divorce, sale by private treaty, probate and post-loss reports.
Auction highlights include a pair of 1878 Victorian cast silver figural candlesticks, designed by John Septimus Beresford, which sold for £8,100, and a Tiffany and Co American silver tea caddy, designed by Edward C Moore circa 1878, which fetched £14,000.
