Ancient Art, Antiquities and Classical Coins together with Historica and Metal Detecting Finds are sold at specialist auctions led by two experts in their field.
James Brenchley leads our Antiquities Department while Mark Becher heads up our Historica/Metal Detecting Finds section.
Mr Brenchley offers a professional service within the ancient art sector and adheres to strict ethical trading laws protecting the market.
His wide range of expertise covers such areas as Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities as well as ancient art from the Near East, Asia and the Americas. Alongside Classical antiquity you will see items from the Prehistoric to Post-Medieval period, including the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages.
The department accepts a broad selection of items including Egyptian burial amulets, cartonnage fragments and shabti figures,Greek pottery, figures and jewellery and Roman pottery, bronze figures and coins.
Exceptional metal detecting finds also go under the hammer at Hansons. For example, a 15th century brooch found near Kirby Muxloe Castle, Leicestershire, in 2016 made £20,800 from a guide price of £6,000.
It was believed to be a gift of love from William Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings, to his wife Katherine Neville, who he married in 1462.
