Antiquarian Books and Maps

Books, maps and manuscripts are a richly diverse sector awash with historical treasures.

Led by our valuer and expert Jim Spencer, this department has witnessed some impressive finds - such as a rare medieval book - and seen letters from Admiral Lord Nelson go under the hammer.

The department also values and sells the earliest hand-drawn maps which offer a snapshot of history, visually showing our changing world.

At Hansons, we help to bring the stories of these objects to life and have been honoured to sell many unique pieces, including superlative hand-tinted works by Robert Morden.

When it comes to the printed word, we handle everything from individual antiquarian books or manuscripts through to major collections and entire libraries.

Whether you have a valuable, signed first edition or unknown gems tucked away at home, our experts will help you discover everything there is to know about your item.

Antiquarian books and maps are included in our monthly Antique & Collectors Auctions and our quarterly Fine Art Auctions.
