From January 2020 sales, any requests to transfer items between sites for collection or for the postage and packing service will be charged a transfer fee as a contribution towards the administration and transportation costs. This relates to only small items - This does not include furniture.

Fees for transfers involving the London or Bambury sites - £10 + VAT per invoice
Fees for transfers between Derby and Staffordshire - £5 + VAT per invoice

These fees are in addition to the postage and packing fees.

In-house Packing & Postage Service

Hansons Auctioneers offers an in-house postal service from our Derby saleroom for clients who are unable to attend the auction or collect.

For those clients who have brought from our London saleroom, an offer of postage service will be made by email after the closure of the sale. This email will come from thesaleroom.com in conjunction with auction logistics who will offer a full collection, packing and postage service.

We are not professional packers or shippers but do our utmost to pack items in a correct way which will ensure items arrive safely. However, Hansons Auctioneers will not be held responsible for making any claim. We may be able to make claims with Royal Mail or Parcelforce but cannot guarantee this.

There are some items that, due to their nature, size or weight, we cannot post out. However, we can recommend couriers and you can arrange for them to pick the item up from our saleroom. They will also be able to insure some items which we are unable to insure. There are also some items that we are prohibited from posting because of conditions laid down by the delivery service. (These items are noted at the bottom of this page).

Items sent in the UK

Depending on worth, size and weight, items will either be sent by Royal Mail 1st class signed for, Special Delivery 1pm or Parcelforce.

Our postage charge for our in-house service will be split into postage and packing service. The postage will be based around the costs charged by the courier ( Royal Mail, Parcelforce etc) plus a packing fee which will be decided by the estimated value, type of packaging required and the service administration costs involved.

Clients will be quoted after the sale once we have weighed and measured goods and looked at insurance. Please contact us after you have purchased the item.

With regards to ceramics and glass items in the UK please note, due to the maximum size of our boxes we struggle to pack larger amounts of ceramics and glass. If we are unhappy that items are too fragile and are likely to break we recommend you use a courier to pack and insure them properly. We thank you for your understanding with this, and of course we do try to assist as many clients as we can. We do this to help minimise breakages, especially on more expensive pieces also, cheaper postage services often do not provide insurance cover for breakable items so this is at the clients own risk.

Weapons postage - Please note that Hansons now provides a postage service for legal knives and small deactivated guns, using Royal Mail Special Delivery. We can also post air rifles and air pistols using Parcelforce. Hansons reserves the right not to post weapons, if we are unhappy with certificates, legality etc. We will look at each weapon on an individual basis.

Offensive Weapons Act 2019
Recently introduced, the Offensive Weapon Act 2019, requires us to obtain confirmation that any item with a blade will be sent to and received by a person over 18 years of age.

Items sent overseas

We shall look at items on an individual basis. Depending on worth, the item and the country the item is to be sent to. Only small and non-fragile items will be considered for in-house postage. Please note, if we decide to post items abroad, ALL CLIENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO EMAIL US A DISCLAIMER, ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR BREAKAGE OR LOSS OF THESE PARCELS. HANSONS WILL NOT PAY OUT FOR ANY CLAIM AGAINST PARCELS SENT ABROAD. They are posted at your own risk.
