Derby County aren’t enjoying the best of seasons but you can experience the nostalgia of their glory days at auction.
Items relating to some of the club’s finest achievements will go under the hammer on March 16 including lot 3303, a Charlton Athletic v Derby County FA Cup final programme from April 27, 1946 - still intact after 75 years. It’s being sold with two 1946 FA Cup Final tickets, estimate £100-£120.
Rams fans will be well aware the match resulted in Derby’s first and only FA Cup final triumph. They won 4-1 after extra time. Charlton’s Bert Turner scored an own goal and scored for his own team, becoming the first player to score for both sides in an FA Cup final. Goals from Peter Doherty and two from Jackie Stamps sealed the Rams’ victory.
The glory days of the 1970s are recalled in lot 3300, a silver Derby County Football Club, Football League Champions 1971-72 chalice, hallmarked Barker Ellis Silver Co, Birmingham, 1971, estimate £100-£150. Similarly, lot 3301 is a silver Derby County Football Club, Football League Champions 1974-75 chalice, hallmarked Barker Ellis Silver Co, Birmingham, 1975, £100-£150.
Historical sporting significance adds value after but even a box of old programmes could score an auction win. For example, lot 3326 is a collection of assorted football programmes and tickets relating to matches including Benfica v Juventus, May 9, 1968; Derby County v West Ham United Charity Shield 1975 and Derby County v Chelsea 1948, estimate £50-£80.
