Treasures from a Derbyshire house filled with antique grandeur on a par with the Palace of Versailles go under the hammer in our July 2-3 Derbyshire Fine Art Auction - and you can browse the items in person.

For the first time since lockdown, we are welcoming viewings - by appointment - at Hansons’ Derbyshire saleroom, Heage Lane, Etwall, on Sunday 28 June, 12-4pm, and Monday 29 June, 10am-5pm. To book a time, please email Rachael Morley: [email protected] Social distancing and government guidelines will be strictly adhered to.

The sale, which includes two important locally-sourced collections, offers 585 lots covering everything from fine furniture, paintings, ceramics and Asian works of art to clocks, watches, jewellery and more. Here is a small taster...

Lot 292 | Panther Art Deco Glamour

This stunning, large Art Deco bronze and ivory figure group consists of a central female seated figure wearing a golden headdress and robe with long pleated skirt, her arms outstretched petting two panthers. It oozes 1920s glamour and sophistication and, thanks to the panthers, has an exotic and decadent air. Estimate £3,000-£5,000.

Lot 17 | Captivating Homely Scene

Classic artistry shines bright in lot 17, a British School, 19th Century oil painting of a rustic maid and two children in a cottage interior, unsigned. Estimate £2,000-£3,000.

Lot 106 | French flamboyance

Impressive for its decorative flamboyance is lot 106, a French Empire-style ormolu and white marble mantel clock, late 19th Century, the brass barrel case surmounted by an eagle and set between twin tapering obelisk supports above a stepped base. It features black Roman numerals, the eight-day movement striking on a bell. Est £1,500-£2,000.

Lot 436 | Chinese Beauty

Then there’s lot 436, a pair of Chinese blue and white tea caddies and covers, Qianlong, of square section with 'French hat' covers, decorated with riverscapes with pavilions, trees and fishing boats. Est £1,500-£2,000.
