Being a huge football fan, I’m always delighted to see anything sports-related arrive at our saleroom – especially if it’s champagne.
Coming up for auction are two magnums of limited-edition 1966 World Cup Champions champagne signed by seven members of that famous England team that lifted the famous trophy.
Legendary players who’ve penned their signatures on one of the bottles include Gordon Banks, George Cohen, Alan Ball, Nobby Stiles, Bobby Charlton, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst. The other bottle has a slightly different set of signatures.
The bottles, each carrying an estimate of £100-£150, are destined for the Wine and Whisky section of our October 9-11 Fine Art Auction. They will go under the hammer on Thursday (Oct 10) and, frankly, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better gift for an England fan.
It’s been 53 years since we won the World Cup and it’s every football fan’s dream to watch their national team raise the trophy. At least if you buy this, you can raise a glass and cheer the future of English football. Let’s hope we’ll have reason to make another World Cup champagne.
Hansons offers free wine and whisky valuations on Wednesdays, 10am-1pm, with Tom Pye, or email [email protected]. If you’d like to preview lots in our Fine Art Auction you can view in advance at Bishton Hall, Wolseley Bridge, Staffs, ST17 0XN, today (Oct 7), 10am-4pm or tomorrow (Oct 8), 10am-7pm.
