Jersey has bid farewell to glorious gorilla sculptures that have been adding colour to the island’s wild spaces and urban hot spots for 11 weeks.
The animals have been rounded up and taken to their temporary home for a paint and pamper to get them ready for auction.
However, islanders will have one last chance to view the magnificent sculptures that have been dotted all over the island this summer and autumn as part of the Channel Islands’ largest public art trail.
Goodbye Gorillas is a four-day celebration from November 1-4 that will give gorilla fans the opportunity to see the whole troop together at Jersey Zoo before they go under the hammer to raise funds to build a new home for Durrell’s beloved gorilla family. No booking required, normal admission prices apply until 3pm when half price entry is available to view the gorillas. Durrell members free.
For those who can't bear to say goodbye to their favourite gorilla (or gorillas!), be sure to book tickets for the Grand Gorilla Auction at The Royal Yacht on November 6. One of the UK’s best known auctioneers, Charles Hanson, who raised £1.2m at the Wild in Art Auction, organised Bee in the City, last year, will sell all 40 silverback sculptures from the trail, plus three of the small sculptures and one surprise silverback.
