Football v Handbags! Turn on the WAG style at charity auction TONIGHT - July 3

We all know England are playing Colombia tonight but if football doesn’t float your boat there is a way to escape World Cup domination.

On July 3, for the first time ever, Hansons Do Handbags. The Derbyshire auction house is holding a Luxury Handbags and Objects of Desire Auction at 6.30pm to offer people an alternative to the football.

Drop down to Hansons Auctioneers’ saleroom in Heage Lane, Etwall, near Derby, and instead of looking at football action replays and listening to pundits saying ‘well, we could win tonight, but there again we might lose’, you could immerse yourself in leather luxury items, silk scarves and designer sunglasses courtesy of Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and more.

In fact, you could bag an item that a WAG would be proud to have on her arm, or a celebrity, or even a member of royalty. In fact, talking of WAGs, lot 1333 is a Victoria Beckham handbag in black leather, estimate £500-£600.

Plus, the fabulous collection is going under the hammer to aid charity. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I am holding a charity auction to aid causes which support prostate cancer and homeless people with mental health issues including ex-service people. This is very close to my heart.”

You won’t be missing out on a World Cup party feeling either. Drinks and canapés will be served from 5pm, just prior to the auction starting at 6.30pm.

Auction house owner Charles Hanson is a big football fan – he even has England flags on his car - but he’ll be on hand to ensure all runs smoothly.

He said: “Supporting charity is massively important to us and, though it’s a huge night for English football, we know there are plenty of people out there who would like to do something other than watch the big game.

“Handbags v Football? For some it will be no contest and Prada and Chanel will win the day. For those who wouldn’t dream of missing the match, everyone at Hansons will be willing England to win every step of the way.

“We hope our national team are triumphant tonight and we also hope this auction raises lots of money some for some very good causes.”

Items in the sale – which features more than 100 items - include lot 1240, an Alexander McQueen floral iris skull clutch bag, estimate £200-£250; lot 1266, a Chanel bag, estimate £1,000-£1,500; lot 1294, a Hermes 1992 black Kelly Sellier 28 handbag, estimate £6,000-£8,000 and lot 1314, a Louis Vuitton multicolour pochette handbag, estimate £150-£200.

Among the other objects of desire are Cartier sunglasses, lighter, belt, pen and silk scarf; Celine ear-rings and silk ties; Chanel ear-rings and silk ties; Gucci vintage purse; Hermes leather gloves and a Nina Ricci heart pendant.
